The President Lashes Out At Google For Promoting Fake News
This morning the President went on Twitter to comment on the way fake news media is being spread these days. In his remarks, President Trump seems to think Google is mostly to blame. As they give a certain preference to liberal media sites in their searches. The exact words used by the President this morning were,
“Google search results for “Trump News” shows only the viewing/reporting of Fake New Media. In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD. Fake CNN is prominent. Republican/Conservative & Fair Media is shut out. Illegal?”
Then he proceeded to add, “results on “Trump News” are from National Left-Wing Media, very dangerous. Google & others are suppressing voices of Conservatives and hiding information and news that is good. They are controlling what we can & cannot see. This is a very serious situation will be addressed!”
Does The President Have A Point?
This is a very serious situation as the President said. The reality is that Google essentially has the power to control and monitor your presence online. You will get results that they think are relevant to you based on certain algorithms. This means that they can influence what news you see online, what you buy, and almost who you communicate. Right now Google basically has unlimited power. A power that Television in its hay day never even dreamed of having.
What is also true is that there are a lot more liberal news outlets out there than their conservative ones. Which means you are most likely to find a liberal site before you find a conservative one. Also, a lot of people get their daily news digest from Google news. Here the company does act as a filter to put certain news stories they deem most relevant at the top. They usually have liberal media sites constantly providing the main headlines. Take it from us getting into google news as conservative media is tough. The liberal media obviously jumped all over the President for these comments. In reality, though this is something that needs to be addressed.
